Dorothy's constant companion was her little dog Toto, who followed her around like a furry shadow. Life on the farm was as simple as apple pie and quiet as a mouse. The prairie stretched out forever, like a sea of grass waving in the breeze. Days were filled with chores - feeding chickens, helping in the garden, and mending fences.But one day, everything changed faster than you could say"Kansas tornado." The sky turned this weird shade of green, like someone had painted it with pea soup. Then this eerie stillness fell over everything.And boy, did it happen! Out of nowhere, this monster of a cyclone appeared on the horizon. It looked like an angry snake, twisting and churning its way across the land.Aunt Em and Uncle Henry, bless their hearts, they knew the drill. They started hollering for Dorothy to follow them to the storm cellar. But poor Dorothy, she was in such a tizzy, she couldn't find Toto anywhere.By the time she found the little rascal hiding under the bed, it was too late to make a run for it. The wind had turned into this roaring monster, shaking the house like it was nothing more than a dollhouse. Dorothy hugged Toto tight, her eyes as wide as saucers.Then, wouldn't you know it, the house decided to go on an adventure of its own. It gave this almighty groan and lifted right off the ground! It started spinning in the cyclone like a top, carried away from Kansas as easy as you'd blow a dandelion.As the house spun higher and higher, the strangest thing happened. Dorothy's fear started mixing with this weird sense of wonder. Through the windows, she saw the most impossible things. There was a cow, sailing by like it was the most normal thing in the world. Then, if you can believe it, a man in a rowboat, cool as a cucumber, just reading his newspaper.Now, you'd think all this spinning and craziness would keep a person wide awake, but Dorothy was plumb tuckered out. The day had been one wild rollercoaster of emotions, and it was catching up to her.She curled up on her bed, still holding onto Toto like he was her favorite teddy bear. As she drifted off to sleep, her mind was a jumble of thoughts. Where in the world was this crazy wind taking them? Would she ever see Aunt Em and Uncle Henry again?With all these questions swirling in her head, Dorothy finally conked out. She fell into a deep sleep, being carried far, far away from the only home she'd ever known. Little did she know, when she opened her eyes next, she'd be in for the surprise of her life.
