1. The Birth of a Knight-Errant Alonso Quixano lived a pretty ordinary life in a small village in La Mancha. That is, until the day he stumbled upon a dusty old book of chivalric romances that would change everything. It was like finding buried treasure in his own attic. The moment he cracked open that book, Alonso was hooked.Day and night, Alonso was lost in these stories of brave knights, damsels in distress, and epic quests. His small estate started to fall apart around him, but he barely noticed. Who cared about mundane things like eating or sleeping when there were dragons to slay and honor to defend? As time went on, Alonso's grip on reality began to slip, like sand through an hourglass. The line between fact and fiction blurred until it was as thin as a spider's web. In his mind, these stories weren't just stories anymore - they were real, and he was meant to be a part of them. Then, one morning, Alonso woke up with an idea so wild, it was like lightning had struck his brain. He wasn't going to be plain old Alonso anymore. No sir, he was going to become a real, honest-to-goodness knight-errant.First things first, he needed armor. Alonso dug through his attic like a man possessed until he found an old suit that had belonged to his great-grandfather. It was a sorry sight, all rusty and falling apart, but Alonso saw potential. He spent days polishing that armor until it shone like the sun, patching up the weak spots with cardboard.Next up was his noble steed. Now, Alonso had an old nag of a horse, skinny as a rail and well past its prime. But through the rose-tinted glasses of his delusion, that old horse transformed into a magnificent charger. But Alonso wasn't done yet. He needed a new name to match his new identity. After mulling it over for days, he struck gold - Don Quixote de La Mancha. There was just one piece missing from his knightly puzzle - a lady love to fight for. Alonso set his sights on a local farm girl named Aldonza Lorenzo. Now, Aldonza was just an ordinary peasant, probably never even noticed Alonso before. But in the funhouse mirror of his mind, she became the beautiful and noble Dulcinea del Toboso. With all the pieces in place, Don Quixote (as we should now call him) was ready to set out on his first grand adventure. He was like a pot of water about to boil over, bubbling with excitement. As he prepared to leave, Don Quixote took one last look at his humble home. To anyone else, it would've been a pitiful sight - a middle-aged man in patchwork armor, about to ride off on a horse that looked like it should be put out to pasture. And so, with his rusty armor clanking like pots and pans in an earthquake and Rocinante's hooves clip-clopping on the dusty road, Don Quixote set off into the world. As the sun began to set, casting long shadows across the landscape, Don Quixote felt a thrill of anticipation. Tomorrow would bring his first real adventure, his first chance to prove himself as a true knight.
